Cyprus Community Media Centre (CCMC)

The Cyprus Community Media Centre (CCMC) was launched in 2009 and aims to establish community media in Cyprus and support local organisations and community groups in communicating their message to a wider audience through audiovisual productions and training. It is comprised of over 40 civil society organisations that represent a broad range of civil society issues throughout Cyprus. These organisations work in areas like health, environment, human rights, women, youth, education, culture and more. CCMC empowers its members through media trainings, dedicated support, equipment loan, video and audio production, and providing a community space for their various functions. CCMC has been providing training workshops for civil society, media professionals and the general public in a wide range of media-related subjects. One of its core objectives is the provision of training sessions which will improve the media skills of civil society, and empower individuals with the equipment and ability to create their own media. CCMC strives to be diverse, inclusive, collaborative, transparent and equitable by promoting the benefits of community-based media to as wide an audience as possible and giving its members the opportunity to gain media skills to be in control of their own messages. It also aims to enhance relationships between the mass media and civil society through the creation and broadcasting of productions that contribute to multiculturalism and diversity. Since its inception CCMC has trained hundreds of civil society representatives from a wide range of skill-sets and backgrounds. The key to CCMC’s accessibility as a training center lies in its location in the heart of Nicosia’s buffer zone, within the grounds of Ledra Palace. It houses a meeting space used for training as well as video and audio edit suites, video and still cameras, workstations and recording facilities.
